HOTEL GOTHAM

Another wonderful stay at The Hotel Gotham. This is my favourite Hotel in Manchester.

From the moment you step through the door you just never want to leave. You are always greeted and checked in with a cheerful smile. I have stayed at the hotel numerous times and I just keep going back I love it so much.

A lovely welcoming touch in the room was a dessert platter board with scrumptious cakes, macarons, chocolate dipped strawberries and fresh berries on. It looked beautiful and was such a lovely treat.

We stayed in one of The Bank Managers Suite. With stunning decor, a brass roll top bath tub, en suite shower room and an Emperor sized double bed with Egyptian cotton bed linen and a fake fur throw over, wow, just beautiful.

The rooms also come equipped with a mini bar, free WiFi, espresso machine, flat screen TV, desk and chair, tea and coffee facilities and the best Piggy biscuits. These rooms certainly have the WOW factor and that deep bath tub, so relaxing, I just didn’t want to get out of it, it was Heaven.

We had a late checkout booked so we had a lazy morning in our room and had breakfast delivered to the room. The large selection choice of breakfast was delicious and the Full English Breakfast & Pancakes were perfect and cooked to perfection.

After our late check out we had Afternoon Tea in The Honey Restaurant. We had a window view, with views across the city and the food and service was excellent . Voted one of the Best Afternoon Teas in Manchester and I can certainly vouch for that. It was Amazing.

We had the most relaxing and comfortable nights sleep ever and an enjoyable relaxing stay. The hotel is spotlessly clean everywhere. The staff here are lovely, friendly and helpful and can’t do enough for you. If you are looking to stay in Manchester, then Hotel Gotham has got to be at the top of your list. It’s in the perfect location close to Restaurants, Shops and Bars. It is The BEST. Can’t wait to go back.

Dishes we chose from The Lunch Menu were: Starters:My Husband had the Slow cooked Crispy Duck with piccalilli baked beans, Bury black pudding and watercress salsa verde. I’ve never seen him eat out so fast. He loved it. The tasty tender Duck meat just fell of the bone and the piccalilli baked beans and the black pudding worked so well with this dish. A lovely combination.

Crispy Duck with piccalilli baked beans & Bury black pudding

I tried the Coconut sweet potato & chick pea broth and I’ve got to say it was one of the Best broths I have ever tasted. Packed with chunky vegetables and it had a nice sweet and spicy kick to it. I want the recipe for it. I Loved it.

Coconut sweet potato and chick pea broth

Mains: My Husband choose the 28 Day Aged Sirloin Steak with dried tomato, cress and roasted king oyster mushrooms, along with a side of skinny fries and green beans. The steak was served medium rare, it was well seasoned and cooked to perfection.

I had the Kara Johnson’s Whole Grilled Chicken , the chicken was lovely, tasty and very moist, and combined with the rich creamed chicken veloute , wow the flavours were incredible. this was served with charred tender broccoli stems with hazelnut butter and creamed mash potatoes. The broccoli stems were lovely and tasty and the mash was slightly runny if I’m honest but was very flavoursome, could of done with being a touch thicker.

Desserts: My Husband chose The Naughty Manchester Tart 🐝. Everyone’s Favourite Famous Tart. A Pastry tart filled with jam, custard, bananas and coconut shavings. He thoroughly enjoyed it.

I tried the Dark Chocolate Pot. This was so yummy. Rich and creamy chocolate mousse with vanilla ice cream and fresh blackberries. Delicious!

We really enjoyed all the delicious dishes.

Every dish had beautiful presentation and they were all bursting with flavours. The food menus have a great selection of choices. The service was fabulous. Menu prices are very reasonable here. This place is perfect spot for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, or even if you are just wanting a few light snacks and drinks with a lovely relaxing atmosphere. Highly recommended. Hillthwaite

Hillthwaite Hotel is located at the top of a hill, this beautiful 5 star Bed and Breakfast boutique certainly has one of the most breathtaking panoramic views of Windermere Lake and the Lakeland Fells and is within walking distance to Windermere and Bowness or only a few minutes drive by car into the town.

This is a family owned business celebrating their 50th Anniversary this year. We were given a lovely warm welcome when we arrived and were led to our room. We stayed in a Classic Plus Room. When we walked through the door, we were blown away. The room was stunning.

It was very spacious and tastefully decorated. The super king sized bed had fresh crisp white sheets and a decorated throw over and was accompanied with a cute little Hillthwaite teddy holding the Tv remote. So cute.

The room had two lovely cosy stylish chairs by the window. Perfect for relaxing and admiring the stunning views across Windermere.

The room was well equipped with a Tv, iron, ironing board, hairdryer, bath robes, toiletries, bottled water and tea and coffee facilities and cookies too. There was plenty of storage for clothes also .

Not only did the stylish en-suite have a shower ,it also had a jacuzzi bath too which was so relaxing.

The hotel also boasts a swimming pool, so make sure you pack your swimwear, a sauna and steam room. The ultimate place to relax and unwind after a long day in the lakes.

We had a wonderful Afternoon Tea with a magnificent views across Windermere. The sandwiches were so soft and freshly made with delightful fillings. Scones were a very good size and moreish. They were served warm with strawberry jam, marmalade and clotted cream. Yum yum. I couldn’t wait to indulge into the scrumptious cake selection. My favourite were the orange profiteroles, puff balls drizzled with dark chocolate and orange zest. And oozing with an orange cream filling. They were so so delicious. Served along with a fresh pot of tea and a pot of coffee. This Afternoon Tea was up there with one of the best I’ve ever had 10/10.

We enjoyed a lovely breakfast from the new menu. There was plenty of choice from the large buffet selection including In-house granola pots, cereals , Cumbrian honey glazed ham, fresh pastries, fruit, juices, etc.

My husband ordered the Full Cumbrian breakfast. All items locally sourced. Everything was cooked to perfection and very well seasoned. He particularly enjoyed the local black pudding and cumbrian sausage.

I wanted to try something different from the new menu. I choose the smoked haddock soufflé with mornay sauce. It was lovely , moist and of a creamy consistency. The fish flavours and mornay sauce worked well together. It was so delicious.

The Breakfast with a view was outstanding. We loved it. Service was very quick and the staff were lovely and friendly.

We had the most comfortable nights sleep at Hillthwaite and the food is amazing at this hotel. If your looking for a nice relaxing getaway in the Lake District with lovely views. Then Hillthwaite is the place to be. I would defiantly recommend this gorgeous hotel. And I would return and recommend it to friends. Loved it here.

Sugar Junction Northern Quarter Manchester

Wow, wow, wow. Whar a lovely atmosphere there is when you walk through the door at this beautiful vintage style tearoom. Authentic music can be heard playing . They serve breakfast, brunch, delicious homemade cakes, afternoon tea and cocktails too. You are spoilt for choice by the menu. You’ll want to eat everything on it, it’s that good.

I ordered the Baked Banana & Berry French Toast. Baked sourdough French toast, served with maple syrup, fresh berrries and banana chips , and I’ve got to say it was absolutely delicious. By far the best French Toast I have tasted, and I have never seen fruit look so fresh anywhere.

Drizzle drizzle. Yummy!

My husband had the Banoffee Pancakes with lashings of bananas, cream, toffee sauce and a four stack of pancakes. The pancakes were so fluffy and the toffee sauce was amazing. Yum, yum!

The China tea sets are beautiful too and are a lovely touch at this unique tearoom.

Malmaison Hotel Manchester

The Malmaison Hotel in Manchester. What a beautiful modern hotel it is. It’s in a fantastic location, only half a mile from the city centre and across the road from Piccadilly Station. We stayed in one of the Executive Double Rooms, located at the new side of the building. The decor was stunning and the room was very spacious. The facilities include : Free WiFi , flat screen plasmaTV, hairdryer, ironing board, same day laundry, kettle, desk, 24hour room service and a mini bar.

Before Dinner we popped into the the bar for some cocktails. There was a lovely atmosphere in there.

We dined in the Chez Mal Restaurant within the hotel. For dinner we tried the new summer Dinner menu. We were led to our table by the very friendly waiter who poured us a glass of the house white, which was lovely and fruity.

There is a wide selection of choice on the menu and they also do deals where you can have a 2 course for £19.95 or a 3 course for £24.95. It’s really good value for the high standard of food you receive.

We choose from the Prix Fixe Menu. Three courses £24.95.

Starter : I had the white onion soup with crusty bread , it was lovely, creamy and very tasty. My husband had the Thai sticky chicken lollipops, soy, chilli and coriander dipping sauce. They were so tasty but dipped in the dipping sauce the flavours were superb.

Main : For mains I had the steak frites. Marinated full face rump, confit tomato, green salad , pomme frittes, with peppercorn sauce. The rump was lovely and tender. The salad was a bit dry if I’m honest. Could of done with some dressing on. My husband chose grilled chicken breast, seasonal greens , garlic butter and fries, the chicken was so succulent and tasty.

Dessert : I chose sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. Wow it was the best ever , the sponge was so soft and the hot toffee sauce was delicious. My husband had the Mango & passion fruit pavlova, mango sorbet ,Malibu cream & passion fruit coulis. The meringue was lovely, crisp and light and melted in his mouth , the mango sorbet and coulis were lovely and sweet.

The menu is a contemporary collection of dishes showcasing this seasons finest ingredients. I would highly recommend this menu. It’s really amazing value for money for the high standard of food with plenty of options to choose from.

The breakfast was incredible with a selection of continental or cooked breakfast ,cereals, pastries, fresh fruit , juices and tea and coffee. I choose the waffles with yoghurt and fresh berries , it was so delicious. The waffles were the softest I’ve ever tasted. My husband choose the Chez Mal full cooked breakfast and toast., it was all cooked perfect, he thoroughly enjoyed it.

This is a lovely hotel in a great location, and very reasonable priced. We had a very comfortable nights sleep. The room was so quiet. The decor is beautiful. If you are visiting the lovely city of Manchester I would definitely recommend staying here. I’d say it’s up at the top with the best hotels in Manchester. Cannot wait to return.

Holbeck Ghyll Country House Hotel

Holbeck Ghyll Country House Hotel

I was delighted to be invited to try the new summer Al A Carte menu at Holbeck Ghyll Country House Hotel in the Lake District.

Holbeck Ghyll is a luxurious traditional country house situated between Ambleside and Windermere. With a beautiful outlook and stunning views of Lake Windermere and the Cumbrian fells. I have dined there a few years ago and the food was amazing then, so I was looking forward to visiting again.

We were given a warm welcome by the friendly staff and were asked if we wanted to sit inside or out on the terrace. It was a lovely evening so we decided to sit on the terrace first whilst we had a drink. We sat admiring the breathtaking views while having our drinks. The atmosphere was so peaceful and relaxing. We were served canapés. These were delicious. I knew by the taste of these the rest of the food would be amazing.

When we had finished the canapés we were taken inside to the dining room to be seated by the window. The view whilst sat dining was stunning.

Before our starter we were served a plate with some warm brioche buns, they had black pudding in the centre of them, they were amazing and we also had some warm sourdough bread and whipped butter.

For my starter I chose: Spring pea green risotto, smoked ham, Parmesan. I was very impressed with this dish , the rice was lovely and fluffy, you could taste the pea flavouring and the smoked shredded ham was tender, tasty and not too salty. The creamy sauce mixed with the rice and the smoked ham tasted divine. I loved this dish.

My husbands starter was the Chalk Stream Trout. Orange, pickled cucumber and radish. The food styling on this dish was outstanding, trout was lovely and tender and the salad dressing was well seasoned.

For my Main course I opted for the spring Lamb, sweetbread ,parsley, quinoa, carrot and pea. The vegetables were seasoned well The lamb was cooked perfect, slightly pink. It was lovely and succulent but I would of liked it to of tasted a bit richer if I’m honest. It was nice but did lack the wow flavour factor for me.

My husband opted for the Halibut, braised onion, chicken wing and wild mushroom. The halibut was cooked perfect. It was fresh and fell into big flake pieces when cut, the creamy sauce had a lovely seasoning and went well with the fish.

Dessert: I chose the white chocolate , tarragon , strawberries and meringue, the meringue had a light and chewy texture and the flavours from the strawberries and the sorbet were lovely and sweet , It also had a minty taste to it too. Think it must of been the green decoration dressing, I was dying to lick the plate it tasted that good.

My husband chose the Honey and Lemon, Tonka Bean, Bergamot and sorrel. He really enjoyed this and said it had a tangy taste and was very flavoursome.

Each dish was paired with a wine recommended by the waiter who explained where the wine was from and age and he even had a story to tell with a few, which was very interesting to hear. They all worked well with each dish.

The cheese trolley is also available as an extra course at a supplement of £16 with a great selection of cheeses available.

All in all, I would recommend this amazing restaurant. It’s in a beautiful location with stunning views. The staff make you very welcome. Service was quick. Every dish was presented to a high standard, and all dishes were full of delicious flavours. The Al A Carte menu is available at £72 per head for a 3 course. And there is a £35 wine flight per person. Which is a very reasonable price for the Lake District. If you are ever visiting in the Lake District this is the perfect hotel for a wonderful dining experience or even staying at the hotel. I will defiantly be returning.

Tattu Restaurant Manchester

img_8886One of my favourite restaurants has to be Tattu. Located in Gartside Street, Spinningfields , the restaurant’s menu embraces traditional Asian flavours and contemporary Chinese cuisine using flavour combinations and stunning presentation served in exquisite surroundings. Which create an exciting dining experience . We have been a few times and have been very lucky to sit under the stunning cherry blossom trees which stand in the middle of the restaurant. I always have the caramel soy beef with shiitake and asparagus with rice, the beef is always so so tender, and the caramel sauce you get to dip the beef in is incredible, the flavours are amazing. My husband had the Sweet and Sour Iberico. Pineapple, banana shallots and dragon fruit with chilli rice. Yum yum. For my dessert I had my favourite the smoking Cherry Blossom dessert. chocolate mousse, cherry and candy floss. My husband opted for the Asian pear crumble dessert, green apple almond and pink custard. Tattu also do amazing cocktails. My favourite and a must if you go there is Skull Candy. It’s a smoking cocktail which comes in a lovely skull shaped glass with vodka, bubblegum and strawberry. I could drink these all night lol. If your looking for somewhere to eat with the wow factor with amazing tasty food with outstanding presentation then you will not be disappointed with Tattu 10/10 from me.

HOTEL GOTHAM

Luxurious 5 star Hotel ⭐️

We had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Gotham in Manchester. And wow what a place. Situated in the middle of Manchester, within walking distance to the Arndale Shopping Centre , bars and restaurants, etc , this beautiful Art Deco building on King St certainly is the King of Manchester Hotels. We have stayed in the Inner Sanctum Suite twice, from the moment you step in the door and hear the old fashioned music being played from the giant wonderwall screen playing a video of Manchester reimagined as a 1930’s Manhatten- esque city escape, its like your in a bubble. Your blown away by the spacious and stunning interior. There are 5 Inner Sanctum Suites – each named after an iconic Manchester figure and featuring a huge ‘wonderwall’ screen. There is a signature emperor-sized feather-bed, gigantic black leather head board, vintage suitcases, buckled belts and hat boxes that will transport you back to the golden age of travel. Egyptian cotton bed linen • waffle robes • slippers • minibar • espresso machine • en suite with shower, with the biggest shower head I’ve ever seen • huge flatscreen TV • free WiFi. We had cocktails in Club Brass on the Roof top terrace in The Japenese Garden. Lovely pleasant staff who will do their best to make you any cocktail you desire. It is so peaceful up there too. So nice to sit and chill and look at the beautiful surroundings of Manchester. For breakfast we dined in the Honey Restaurant . With sensational views across Manchester from the stunning half moon windows we enjoyed breakfast with an amazing view. Continetal and Full English breakfast, cereals, pastries , tea, coffee and juices were available. There is plenty of choice and something for everyone. Last time we had a room service breakfast which was superb, so nice to chill on the bed eating breakfast and having a read of the Gotham Bugle newspaper, which is such a good read . If you want a peaceful nights sleep, the Inner Sanctum Suite is the room to be in. We never heard a sound from anywhere. By far the best hotel we have ever stayed in .
